Coturnix Quail

OUR QUAIL:

We keep two aviaries with different types of coturnix quail.

Casa Grande houses our jumbo coturnix in a variety of feather types. We have one hen in this coop that lays a double yolker almost every time!

The House of Blues houses our celadon coturnix in a variety of feather types. Most of the eggs we get from this coop are rather large, which is surprising with a celadon!

WHAT TO DO WITH QUAIL EGGS:

In short, anything you do with a chicken egg can also be done with a quail egg!

Boiling: Boiling only takes 3 minutes! We love them in a salad as a bite size protein bomb. Adding them in with bowl of ramen is delish. They're a fun little surprise in a lunch with some little charcuteries or as an egg salad. Do a quick fridge pickle with them! You get the point, they're fantastic boiled!

Fried: They're also amazing fried! Add them to a BLT, drizzle them with chili oil served on avocado toast, just serve them up with some bacon and toast! Omg, steak and eggs! Or on a homemade pizza! They're just perfect little bites!

Baking: Because quail eggs have a higher yolk to white ratio in comparison to a chicken egg, they are typically much richer in flavor. Using them in baking just adds that richness right into your tasty treats! I will say, make sure you weigh out your eggs so the chemistry is correct.

Dog Treats: Our dogs LOVE a raw quail egg - nature's gusher! I do crack the shell all the way around before feeding it to them, but they get the shell and all.

Trixie - Sulcata Tortoise

This is Trixie! Named after Trixie Mattel, so it works out if she turns out to be a boy or girl! She was born in August of 2025 so she's still really little, but someday she'll be about 150 pounds.

She loves to bask under her heat lamp - she kicks out her little legs and sprawls, it's the cutest thing. Her favorite food is dandelion greens, closely followed by horseherb, but she does love the occasional romaine treat!

ANDY - STANDARD POODLE

This is Andy - aka, Cran, Cranston, Cranny, Crannyston, Andrew, Curly Bean, Curly Twirly Bean Weeny Bean Boy, Dandy, Dandelion, Dandareeno.

He loves his pony cut, the mane is fabulous!

Andy is the biggest fan of the quail eggs - he's always hot on my heels when I'm heading out to collect them.

His favorite things are lounging, eating quail eggs, car rides, hot cheetos, napping, his awesome haircut.

MISSY - CERTIFIED RED DOG

This is Missy - aka Mithy, MithyMithyMithyMithyMithyMithy, MithyYYyee. She's a red dog and that's all there is to it!

She loves to bark! Someone walks by outside? bark. A doorbell rings on the TV? bark. A leaf falls outside? bark.

She also loves the couch and the chair in the office. She loves Andy but is scared of Kilo. She loves a good head scratch, especially if it turns into a full back scratch!

She didn't originally like the quail eggs, but she comes running now!

KILO - ORANGE CAT

This is Kilo, he's enormous. And though he's not fully orange, he's definitely the stereotypical orange cat with 1 braincell. That's not to say he isn't clever though!

He loves stealing food off your plate when you're not looking, unravelling the toilet paper, cuddling on the couch, and belly rubs. And he LOVES Andy!! If Andy is laying down, Kilo is there to invade his space.
